Test Method
Kinetic interaction of microparticles in a solution (KIMS); Roche Cobas Pro.
Performance
Testing is performed Monday through Sunday
Typically completed within 4 hours after the specimen
arrives at the testing site.
Specimen Requirement
0.5 mL of serum or plasma is required for testing. Collect blood in a lithium heparin green-top or red-top tube.
Serum and plasma gel tubes are not acceptable.
Trough specimens are collected just prior to I.V. infusion. Serum or plasma should be separated from contact with cells within 2 hours of collection. Serum or plasma should be stored be refrigerated if
assay is not completed within 8 hours.
Useful For
Trough concentrations drawn at steady-state are the preferred test for monitoring vancomycin therapy.
Reference Values
Uncomplicated MRSA: 10-15 ug/mL
Complicated MRSA: 15-20 ug/mL
