Test Method
Kinetic Interaction of Microparticles in a solution (KIMS); Roche Cobas Pro.
Performance
Testing is performed Monday through Sunday
Typically completed within 4 hours after the specimen
arrives at the testing site.
Useful For
Monitoring adequacy of drug concentration during vancomycin therapy. Vancomycin dosing guidelines are recommending using area under the curve (AUC) guided dosing rather than trough goals for most adult patients.
Reference Values
Reference values are not established for midpoint specimens.
Results are subject to interpretation by the clinician and/or pharmacy.

Specimen Requirements
0.5 mL of serum or plasma is required for testing.
Collect blood in a lithium heparin green-top or red-top tube.
Serum and plasma gel tubes are not acceptable. Serum or plasma
should be separated from contact with cells within 2 hours of
collection. Serum or plasma should be stored be refrigerated if
assay is not completed within 8 hours.
