Test Code HBSQAB Hepatitis B Surface Antibody [LAB3480]

Test Method

Chemiluminescent immunoassay (sandwich principle); Roche cobas Pro

Performance

Testing is performed 7 days a week Monday through Sunday.

Routine requests are completed the same day once received at the laboratory.

Stat requests are completed within 4 hours of receipt at the laboratory.

Useful For

Anti‑HBs is an antibody that is directed against the hepatitis B surface antigen. Anti‑HBs can be formed following a hepatitis B infection or after hepatitis B vaccination. Antibodies are formed against the HBsAg determinant a, which is common to all subtypes, and against subtype‑specific determinants.

Anti‑HBs tests are used within the scope of hepatitis B vaccination to check the necessity and success of vaccination. In addition, anti‑HBs tests are used to monitor the course of disease following acute hepatitis B infection. The Elecsys Anti‑HBs assay uses a mixture of purified antigens of the HBsAg subtypes ad and ay from human serum.

Reference Values

Elecsys Anti-HBs result Result Interpretation of results
< 8.5 Negative Individual is considered to be not immune to infection with HBV.
≥ 8.5 - <11.5 Indeterminate Unable to determine if anti-HBs is present at levels consistent with immunity.
≥ 11.5 Positive Anti-HBs concentration detected at >10 mIU/mL. Individual is considered to be immune to infection with HBV.
