Test Method

Hepatitis A Antibody, IgM: Chemiluminescent μ-Capture test principle; Roche cobas Pro

Hepatitis C Virus (Anti-HCV) Antibody: Chemiluminescent sandwich principle: Roche cobas Pro

Hepatis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg): Electrochemiluminescence sandwich principle: Roche cobas Pro

Hepatitis B Core Antibody, IgM: Chemiluminescent μ‑Capture test principle; Roche cobas Pro

Performance

Testing is performed 7 days a week Monday through Sunday. Routine specimen requests are completed the same day upon arrival to the lab. STAT specimen requests are completed within 4 hours of receipt.

Specimen Requirements

  1. Serum is the specimen of choice. Gel tubes are acceptable.
  2. Lithium heparin plasma and EDTA plasma are also acceptable specimen types.
  3. Specimen Volume: 2 mls of serum or plasma
  4. Stability:
  • Hepatitis A Antibody, IgM:  stable for 7 days at 15-25°C, 14 days at 2-8°C, and 3 months at -20°C.
  • Hepatitis C Virus (Anti-HCV) Antibody: stable for 3 days at 20-25°C, 21 days at 2-8°C, and 3 months at -20°C.
  • Hepatis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg): stable for 6 days at 20-25°C, 14 days at 2-8°C, and 6 months at -20°C.
  • Hepatitis B Core Antibody, IgM: stable for 7 days at 2-8°C, and 3 months at -20°C.
