Specimen Requirement
0.5 mL urine is required.
Additional Specimen Collection Information
Collect a timed urine specimen, 24 hour preferred.
Preservative required. Add 10 mL of 5% Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) to
a
24 hour collection container prior to the start of the
collection.
Keep the specimen at room temperature during the collection
period.
Label the container with preservative information. Label the
specimen appropriately with two identifiers, patient name and
another identifier, (patient ID number, DOB, etc.) include date
and
time of collection. Indicate the time period of collection
on
the container. Submit entire specimen for analysis and transport
to
the lab within 48 hours.
Reference Values
Reference ranges not established. Results are subject to
physician interpretation.
Performance
Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.
Typically assayed within 2 hours after the
specimen
arrives at the testing site.
Useful For
Assessment and management of patients with kidney stones,
particularly uric acid stones.
