Specimen Requirement
0.5 mL urine is required.
Additional Specimen Collection Information
Collect a random urine specimen. Label the
specimen
appropriately with two identifiers, patient name and another
identifier, (patient ID number, DOB, etc.) include date and time
of
collection. Store the urine specimen refrigerated and transport
to
the lab within 48 hours.
Reference Values
Reference values are not established. Results are subject to
interpretation by the clinician.
Performance
Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.
Typically assayed within 2 hours after the
specimen
arrives at the testing site.
Useful For
Identification of abnormal physiologic states causing excess
or
suppressed excretion of calcium (such as hyperparathyroidism),
vitamin D abnormality, diseases that destroy bone, prostate
cancer,
and drug treatment (such as thiazide therapy).
