Test Method

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Typically assayed within 2 hours after the specimen arrives at the testing site.

Specimen Requirement

Collect a timed urine specimen, 24 hour preferred. 10 mL of
6N HCl is required as a preservative. Keep specimen chilled
during the collection period. Submit entire specimen for analysis.
Store the urine specimen refrigerated and transport to the lab
within 48 hours.

Useful For

Identification of abnormal physiologic states causing excess or
suppressed excretion of calcium, such as hyperparathyroidism,
vitamin D abnormality, diseases that destroy bone, prostate cancer,
and drug treatment, such as thiazide therapy.

Reference Values

100-300 mg/24hrs
Reference ranges have not been established for pediatric populations.
