Test Code TROP5G Troponin T 5th Gen [LAB7037]

Test Method

Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay - Elecsys Troponin T Gen 5 - Roche cobas e system

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Routine: Typically completed within 4 hours after the
specimen arrives at the testing site.

STAT: Typically completed within 30 minutes after the specimen
arrives at the testing site.

Useful For

Cardiac troponin T (cTnT) is a cardio‑specific, highly sensitive marker for myocardial damage. Cardiac troponin T increases rapidly (i.e. can be detected within 1 hour if using high‑sensitivity assays) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and may persist up to 2 weeks thereafter. In contrast to ST‑elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the diagnosis of non‑ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) relies heavily upon elevated cardiac troponin (cTn) concentrations in the appropriate clinical context.

Chronic cTn elevations can be detected in clinically stable patients such as patients with ischemic or non‑ischemic heart failure, patients with different forms of cardiomyopathy, renal failure, sepsis and diabetes. Elevated concentrations of cTn can also occur in other clinical conditions such as myocarditis, heart contusion, pulmonary embolism, and drug‑induced cardiotoxicity.

Reference Values

Males: ≤15 ng/L. Females: ≤10 ng/L.

Critical Values: >100 ng/L. Only the first value >100 ng/L in a troponin series will be phoned to the ordering provider.

Performing Laboratory

UnityPoint Health Finley

Specimen Requirements

Lithium heparin plasma; PST acceptable.

Hemolysis is unacceptable for this assay. Hemolyzed samples will be rejected.

Samples for Troponin should be transported to the lab as soon as possible.

Specimens should be separated from the cells within 2 hours of collection. Samples may be stored refrigerated for up to 24 hours.
