Specimen Requirements
1. Submit 0.5 mL of urine from a clean-catch midstream, catheter, ileal conduit, suprapubic, etc. in a screw-capped, sterile container.
2. Send specimen refrigerated if there is a delay in transport or processing. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
3. If specimen will not arrive at St. Luke's within 24 hours of collection, specimen should be sent in BD Vacutainer Urine culture preservative. Collection device available from the laboratory, upon request.
Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.
