Specimen Requirement

Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Stool; 2-4 grams or 1 Tablespoon. PCR is a very sensitive test, and precautions should be taken to not cross-contaminate specimens (i.e., wear gloves and change before and after collecting specimen. Avoid contact with environmental surfaces). DO NOT FREEZE SPECIMEN.
Patient Preparation: The patient should be instructed not to take any antacids, oily laxatives, or anti-diarrheal medications unless prescribed by the physician.
Collection Instructions: Stool: Place 1 Tablespoon into a sterile container or fill Enteric Transport Media (ETM) container to fill line. DO NOT MIX URINE OR WATER WITH THE STOOL SPECIMEN.
Temperature and Stability: Refrigerate (2-8°C); DO NOT FREEZE; Overnight
Unacceptable Conditions: Rectal swabs; samples mixed with urine or water; Leaking containers; Frozen samples
