Test Method
Reverse Polymerase Chain Reaction
Performance
Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.
Typically completed within 4 hours after the specimen
arrives at the testing site.
Specimen Requirement
- Throat Swab Specimen
- Use the ESwab Collection and Transport System. Remove the swab from the wrapper.
- Swab the posterior pharynx, tonsils, and other inflamed areas. Avoid touching the tongue, cheeks, and teeth with the swab when collecting specimens.
Note: To reduce the potential for false negative results, do not collect throat swab specimens immediately after patients have used antiseptic mouthwash. - Uncap the ESwab transport tube.
- Place the specimen containing swab into the ESwab transport tube and break the swab at the indicated score line.
- Cap the ESwab transport tube.
Note: Rayon or Polyester fiber-tipped swabs transferred into ESwab transport media may be used if ESwab was not sent for testing.
- Storage Conditions:
- Specimens can be stored at room temperature for up to 48 hours.
- Specimens can be stored refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to six days.
