Specimen Requirement

Container/Tube Type: 

This test requires it's OWN collection tube.
Send specimen in original container.

 

Preferred Collection Container: 

SST (Serum Separator)

 

Also Acceptable Collection Container: 

Red (No Additive)
Lavender (EDTA)

 

Collection Information: 

Collect 6.0 mL of whole blood into a serum separator tube (preferred). This test requires it's own collection tube and the specimen should be submitted in the original container. NOTE: tube can be shared with other HLA testing.

 

Transport Information: 

Allow tube to clot for 30 minutes and then centrifuge and refrigerate. Specimens may be received unspun if collected in red top or lavender tube. Send original tube.

 

Minimum Sample Volume: 

0.5 mL of serum (approximately 1.0 mL of whole blood based upon a normal patient hematocrit).

 

Unacceptable Conditions: 

Unlabeled or mislabeled samples will be rejected. HLA will determine specimen acceptability for reasons other than unlabeled/mislabeled.
