Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube:
Preferred: Gold-top serum gel tube or plain, red top tube
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of serum
Stability: Samples may be stored at 2-8°C for up to 3 days, but for prolonged storage they
should be kept frozen at -20°C or below for up to 8 days. Do not freeze and
thaw serum more than once.
Collection Instructions: Sample should be allowed to completely clot before centrifugation.

C3c is the major protein component of the complement system, and has a fundamental role in the inflammatory response and immune system functionality. C3c is produced in the liver, and accordingly reduced complement activity is associated with severe liver failure.
