Test Method
Enzymatic colorimetric test; Roche Cobas Pro.
Performance
Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.
Routine orders: Typically completed within 4 hours after the
speicmen arrives at the testing site.
STAT orders: Typically completed within 30 minutes after
the specimen arrives at the testing site.
Specimen Requirement
- Lithium heparin plasma (green) is the specimen of choice: 500 mcL.
- Serum (red/gold) and EDTA plasma (purple) are also acceptable sample types.
- It is recommended that the serum or plasma be separated from contact with cells within 2 hours from time of collection.
- Uric acid plasma/serum samples are stable for 3 days at 20-25°C, 7 days at 4-8°C, and 6 months at -20°C.
Useful For
Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism in the human organism. Uric acid measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of numerous renal and metabolic disorders, including renal failure, gout, leukemia, psoriasis, starvation or other wasting conditions, and of patients receiving cytotoxic drugs.
