Performance
Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.
Typically assayed within 2 hours after the specimen arrives at the testing site.
Specimen Requirement
0.5 mL urine is required.
Collect a random urine specimen. No preservative is required. Label the specimen appropriately with two identifiers, patient name and another identifier, (patient ID number, DOB, etc.) include date and time of collection. Store the urine specimen refrigerated and transport to the lab within 48 hours.
Useful For
Urine K+ is useful in determining the cause for hyper- or hypokalemia.
Reference Values
Reference values are not establish for random urine. Results are subject to interpretation by the clinician.
