Specimen Requirements

1. Submit body fluid in a screw-capped, sterile container or capped syringe. (Swab is not acceptable.)

Note:  Body fluid may be inoculated directly into blood culture bottles obtained from lab.

2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

3. Includes gram stain.

Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.
