Culture with Identification by Conventional Method

1. Submit IV catheter tip that has been aseptically removed in a screw-capped, sterile container.

2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.

No growth or <15 colonies

Semi-quantitative culture of the external surface of the catheter tip. Colony counts ≥15 are associated with infections.
