Test Method

Antigen antibody agglutination; Ortho

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Routine orders: Typically completed within 4 hours after
specimen arrives at the testing site.

STAT orders: 5 minutes once a a negative antibody screen has
been resulted. Will take longer if the patient has a red cell
antibody.

Specimen Requirement

A 5ml EDTA purple-top tube is preferred.

 

7-10 mL red-top, 5 mL heparin green-top or 5 mL blue-top
tubes are also acceptable. Serum and plasma gel tubes are not
acceeptable. Micro specimen may be obtained wih a capillary
collection device.

Selecting compatible blood products for transfusion therapy

Reference Values

Compatible

If the patient has a positive antibody screen, an Expanded
Compatibility test will be performed.
