Test Method
Wright Stained Blood Smear with Microscopy
Performance
Testing is performed Monday through Friday.
Same day on orders received by 1300. Interpretation by a
pathologist
Specimen Requirement
Wright-stained peripheral blood smears on an EDTA sample.

Obtaining expert opinion on peripheral blood smear associated
with an internal CBC with Differential

Additional Specimen Collection Information
Wright-stained smears or whole blood collected in
EDTA purple-top tube (< 8 hrs old). The tube must be
at least one quarter full to be acceptable for testing. Capillary
specimen collected in EDTA microtube is also acceptable.
The tube must contain at least 375 mcL (bottom line) to
be acceptable for testing.
