Test Code PATH EXAM SURG Surgical Pathology Specimen Request LAB2255

Important Note

All surgical specimens sent to the laboratory for gross pathology examination, rapid freeze (frozen section), slide preparation and microscopic exam must be accompanied by the proper requisition [varies depending on whether inpatient or outpatient]. All specimens must be labeled with patient name, date and time of collection and the type of specimen.

Frozen sections are to be scheduled as soon as the surgery is scheduled, whenever possible. Notify the laboratory as soon as possible of unscheduled frozen sections so a pathologist is available.
