Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Typically completed within 4 hours after the specimen arrives at the testing site.

 

Specimen Requirement

2 mL random urine is required.

Useful For

Assessing the potential for early onset of nephropathy in diabetic patients

Reference Values

Urine Albumin: < 2.0 mg/dL

Creatinine: Not established for random specimens; results are subject to interpretation by the clinician.

Urine Albumin/Creatinine Ratio:
Male: Less than (<) 30 mg/g

Female: Less than (<) 30 mg/g.

Additional Specimen Collection Information

Collect a random urine specimen in a plastic container. No preservative required. Label the tube with patient name and 2 forms of identification (a patient ID number and DOB). Store the urine specimen refrigerated and transport to the lab within 48 hours.
