Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Typically completed within 4 hours after the specimen arrives at the testing site.

 

Specimen Requirement

2 mL random urine is required.

Useful For

Assessing the potential for early onset of nephropathy in
diabetic patients

Reference Values

Microalbumin: < 1.9 mg/dL

Creatinine: Not established for random specimens; results are
subject to interpretation by the clinician.

Microalbumin/Creatinine Ratio:
Male: Less than (<) 17 mg/g

Female: Less than (<) 25 mg/g.

Additional Specimen Collection Information

Collect a random urine specimen in a plastic container. No
preservative required. Label the tube with patient name and 2 forms
of identification (a patient ID number and DOB). Store the
urine specimen refrigerated and transport to the lab within 48
hours.

Labs submitting specimens should aliquot 10 ml and send
in a plastic transport tube. Label the tube with patient name and 2
forms of identification (a patient ID number and DOB). Store the
