Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of body fluid.

Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.

UnityPoint Finley Note:

Pleural and peritoneal fluids are the only acceptable body fluid types for amylase.

The activity of α-amylase in serum, plasma, urine, or other body fluids is an important factor is the diagnosis of pancreatic disorders.  Amylase measurements are used primarily in the diagnosis and

treatment of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
