Standard Blood Bank Techniques

Acid-EDTA Elution/Other standard methods may be used in
difficult cases.

Direct Antiglobulin Test

 

Performance

Testing is performed Monday through Sunday.

Antibody Identification turn-around time is dependent on the
complexity of the work involved in identifying the antibody(ies).
Antibodies that cannot be identified by methods used in the
hospital Blood Bank are referred to the reference laboratory for
further testing.

Specimen Requirement

A 5 mL EDTA purple-top tube is preferred.

Useful For

Assessing positive pretransfusion antibody screens, transfusion
reactions, hemolytic disease of the newborn, and autoimmune
hemolytic anemias.
